USA-COL hailed nat’l champ in 2024 Ph Jessup Cup

Iloilo City, Philippines – Legal brilliance and hard-earned perseverance took center stage as the University of San Agustin – College of Law (USA-COL) was crowned National Champion of the 2024 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition – Philippines National Rounds, held in Manila last March 15–17.
The USA-COL team triumphed over top law schools from across the country, including finalists from the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila, in what was hailed as one of the most competitive editions of the Jessup Cup to date.
A Victory Rooted in ExcellenceComprising law students Julianne Ramos, Kyle Mercado, Aira Santos, and Miguel Tan, the team captivated judges with their mastery of international law, eloquence in oral arguments, and depth of legal analysis during both the preliminary and final rounds.
“This win is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our students and faculty,” said Dean Francis Jude Gonzales. “To be named national champions in such a prestigious competition is not only an honor, but a reflection of the rising standard of regional legal education.”
Road to the World StageThe victory earns the USA-COL team the honor of representing the Philippines in the White & Case International Rounds of the Jessup Competition, to be held in Washington, D.C. — where they will face elite law schools from over 90 countries.
The Jessup Cup, the oldest and largest moot court competition in the world, simulates a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice.
More Than Just a WinAside from securing the national title, the team also brought home Best Memorial for Respondent, and Julianne Ramos was named Best Oralist of the Finals.
Supporters from the university community, including faculty, alumni, and fellow students, have poured in messages of pride and encouragement, hailing the victory as a historic moment for the institution.
