Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has announced that the number of registrants for the National ID has now reached nearly 36 million, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to create a national identification system aimed at improving public service delivery and national security.

The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) was launched to streamline various government services, enhance financial inclusion, and provide a more efficient way for Filipinos to access public and private sector services. The continued rise in registrants demonstrates the widespread support for the program, which is seen as a major step toward modernizing the country’s administrative systems.

A Milestone in National Identity

According to National Statistician Dennis S. Mapa, the PSA is targeting a total of 92 million registrants by the end of the program’s implementation. This would cover the entire Filipino population, ensuring that every citizen and resident alien has access to a government-issued, secure identification card. The National ID is expected to simplify various processes, such as banking transactions, healthcare services, and even voter registration.

“We are thrilled to see that more and more Filipinos are recognizing the importance of the National ID in improving access to essential services,” said Mapa. “As we move closer to our goal, the PhilSys program will continue to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in both government and private sectors.”

Streamlined Registration Process

The PSA has been working diligently to ensure that the registration process is quick, easy, and accessible to all Filipinos, even those in remote areas. Registration centers have been established across the country, and mobile registration units have been deployed to reach those who have difficulty accessing traditional centers.

The National ID is free of charge and can be used for various purposes, including opening bank accounts, applying for government services, and verifying identity in both digital and physical spaces.

Addressing Concerns and Challenges

While the initiative has largely been embraced, some concerns remain regarding privacy and data protection. The PSA has reassured the public that robust measures are in place to safeguard personal information and ensure that the system adheres to strict data privacy laws.

“We understand the importance of privacy, and we are committed to maintaining the integrity of the information entrusted to us by Filipino citizens,” said PSA Administrator Claire C. Panaligan.

What’s Next?

With the National ID’s growing adoption, the PSA aims to continue improving the system’s accessibility, expand its use for various government and private sector transactions, and further promote public awareness on how to maximize the card’s potential.
