Iloilo City, Philippines – The stage lit up with Augustinian pride as the University of San Agustin’s dance teams clinched both gold and silver medals at the ILO PRISAA 2024 Dance Competition, held last weekend at the Iloilo Convention Center.

Competing against top-performing schools from across the region, the Augustinian Dance Company (ADC) swept the Contemporary and Street Dance categories, showcasing their signature fusion of precision, passion, and cultural flair.

A Double Victory for USA

The ADC’s Contemporary Team wowed the judges with a powerful routine themed “Pagbangon” — a moving portrayal of resilience and unity in the face of adversity — earning them 1st Place (Gold). Meanwhile, the Street Dance Team electrified the crowd with high-energy choreography and impeccable synchronicity, bringing home the 2nd Place (Silver) finish.

“This is more than just a win — it’s a celebration of our hard work, our heritage, and the Augustinian spirit that drives us,” said Angela May Dela Cruz, team captain of the Contemporary group.

Passion, Discipline, and Teamwork

Months of training, countless rehearsals, and the guidance of their coach, Mr. Jairo Manalo, paid off. The dancers balanced their academic duties with intensive practice sessions, often stretching late into the night.

“We’re incredibly proud of our students. Their discipline and creativity continue to uplift the name of the university,” said Prof. Alma Ramos, Director of the Cultural Affairs Office.

Looking Ahead

With their outstanding performance at ILOPRISAA, the Augustinian dancers are now preparing to represent Iloilo in the upcoming Regional PRISAA Championships this summer.

Their success not only adds another feather to the University of San Agustin’s cap but also inspires a new generation of artists to pursue excellence both in performance and in purpose.
