Iloilo City, Philippines – Beauty, grace, and intellect took center stage as Maria Ysabelle Cruz, a proud Augustinian and senior BS Pharmacy student at the University of San Agustin, was crowned Ilongga Princess 2024 during the grand coronation night held at the Iloilo Convention Center last April 20.

The annual cultural pageant, a highlight of the “Semana sang Ilongga” celebration, honors empowered women who embody Ilonggo heritage, values, and community leadership. Ysabelle stood out among 12 finalists, impressing both judges and audience with her wit, poise, and strong advocacy for accessible healthcare and women’s wellness in underserved communities.

Beauty With Purpose

During the Q&A portion, Ysabelle was asked about the role of young women in shaping Iloilo’s future. Her response, delivered with both heart and conviction, emphasized compassion, education, and active civic engagement — earning her thunderous applause and ultimately, the crown.

“This isn’t just a crown for me — it’s a platform to uplift voices, promote health education, and serve as an example to fellow Ilonggas that beauty and brilliance go hand in hand,” she shared in her victory speech.

A Proud Moment for the University

The University of San Agustin community took to social media to celebrate her win, hailing Ysabelle as an inspiration and a true embodiment of the Augustinian values of Veritas, Unitas, and Caritas.

“We are incredibly proud of Ysabelle. Her achievement reflects the kind of holistic excellence we nurture at USA,” said Dr. Elenita Arceo, Dean of the College of Health and Allied Medical Professions.

Looking Ahead

As Ilongga Princess 2024, Ysabelle will serve as an ambassador for local women’s initiatives, cultural preservation, and public health campaigns throughout the region.
